Save CGM to SVG and vice versa without losing the text

Post by carles.jimenez » 07 Feb 2014, 20:28

Hi there,

I want to be able to process the text from a bunch of CGM files, for example to review it, edit it, translate it, etc,. without having to open each CGM file at once.

This was my plan:
1) Batch convert to SVG format because usually the text is kept there.
2) Then process all SVG files to work with the text.
3) After that, convert back all SVG files (which will be corrected) to CGM and deliver to my client.

I downloaded the trial version and I followed step (1) above but when I open the SVG files in a text editor, I see the text is missing and I can't process it. When opening the SVG in ABViewer the image looks fine and the texts are there but I think they're made with lines, not with actual text fields.

Could you please advise how to proceed? Is there any way to extract the text from CGM or SVG files (or another supported format), process it and convert files back to CGM?

thanks in advance,
Carles

Hello Carles,

You can try the following:

1) Convert your CGM files to DXF format in Batch mode.
2) Open DXF files in a text editor and process the text (this is more complicated than editing SVG files).
3) After that, convert the corrected DXF files back to CGM.

Hi Mikhail,
thanks for your answer.

I tried your suggestion but when I add Chinese characters to the DXF and I open it to convert it back to CGM, the characters are not well displayed and I can't even edit the texts there.
However, when for example adding a "Single Line Text", the application lets me to use any of those Chinese characters.

Can you help me?

thanks,
Carles

Hello Carles,

There is a problem with conversion of Chinese characters in a DXF file to CGM format. Our developers will check it as soon as possible.
